Irrigation Superintendent at Mt. Olivet Cemetery (Wheat Ridge)

Our Irrigation Superintendent is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Mount Olivet and Saint Simeon irrigation systems, to include wells, reservoirs, property lake pump houses, headgates, fairly lengthy ditch laterals and a long pipeline. As our Irrigation Superintendent, your duties must be performed consistent with company mission and values and adherence to company policies and procedures and in doing so upholds the Catholic social teachings of the Catholic Church (the Church).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Develop maintenance programs and log reports as necessary when maintaining the premises 
  • Both ditch laterals and pipeline need to be maintained to keep water flowing to the cemetery and to avoid impediments, which can cause flooding of surrounding neighbors
  • Reservoirs should be inspected to assure safe conditions and wells should be tested to ensure good working order
  • Manage water use to comply with decree requirements; develop reports to demonstrate trends in water usage that may increase the organization’s productivity and decrease cost
  • Interact with neighbors, site owners, regulatory agencies, landscape architects, engineers, contractors, staff members, manufacturers of irrigation products and other site development architects
  • Ensure the operation, maintenance and repair of pump houses by performing complex rehabilitation, construction, and overhaul of related water operations facilities
  • Assists with the preparation of permits required by regulatory agencies as needed
  • Conducts operational data analysis as well as water quality sampling and testing
  • Supervise and implement the inspection, repair, replace, adjust, assess, modify and perform preventative maintenance on sprinkler systems, components and automatic controllers; install and connect low voltage wiring
  • Assess and develop the most efficient management and use of water facilities within and throughout the pump houses
  • Supervise and implement programming, adjust and repair automatic irrigation controllers, electrical parts, sprinkler lines and valves
  • Supervise and assist in cleaning out irrigation lines, and in the assembly and install of a variety of metal and non-metal pipes and fittings
  • Create labor and material estimates for repairs and order equipment and supplies
  • Troubleshoot and respond to emergency requests during and after work hours
  • Review and interpret project scope, work plan and specifications; read blueprints, schematics and shop drawings
  • Estimate labor and materials, order equipment, parts and supplies
  • Under general supervision, provides technical and analytical assistance in the protection and administration of water rights and resources
  • Maintain water channels from excess debris and blockages


REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have valid Colorado Driver’s License
  • Must have an Associate’s Degree or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s Degree a plus
  • Certifications in irrigation management and efficiency in customer service orientation
  • At least 5-7 years of related experience with 2-3 years of lead or supervisory experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Field experience and business management experience a plus
  • Positive and supportive attitude toward the Catholic Church, her teachings, and her work
  • Knowledge of Irrigation systems and basic hydraulics as related to flow rates, pipe sizes, and water pressure
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and shop drawings
  • Understanding and knowledge of basic electronics as applicable to irrigation system controls and controllers
  • The job frequently requires lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects weighing more than 50 lbs. without the assistance of mobile, powered equipment or co-workers
  • Some of these duties may involve work done on weekends, evening, nighttime and holidays. At times, some duties may require work outside in the cold weather or hot weather
  • Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dust, pollen, odors, temperature, weather, and noise extremes, hazardous materials, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, high voltage electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, water hazards, disease, or pathogenic substances

Mt. Olivet Cemetery was consecrated in 1892 and is located on the western side of the Denver Metro area in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.  It is the largest cemetery in Colorado containing 392 acres.  St. Simeon Cemetery was consecrated in 2004 and is located on the eastern side of the Denver Metro area in Aurora, Colorado. The Mortuary has two locations. The first is located on the grounds of Mt. Olivet Cemetery and was opened in 1981.  The second was the recent acquisition of Caldwell-Kirk Mortuary.  These entities serve the Catholic Community of the Denver metro area and its various parishes, missions, and apostolates and other members of the general public regardless of their religious affiliation.
